Obstacles We May Face While Memorising the Qur’an
This is the story that Amaliah has shared.
One of the most widespread misconceptions is that memorizing is only for children or men. While beginning at a young age is advantageous, this should encourage you to begin later in life. Doing excellent deeds does not depend on age or gender. The Qur’an memorization is never about others; it is always about establishing our bond with Allah, regardless of age or gender.
Another significant barrier many people face is the fear of forgetting the Quran. People discourage others from memorizing the Qur’an by saying, “If you forget, it is a larger sin.” Instilling fear in people attempting to do good can be highly damaging.
One of Amany’s difficulties with memorizing was how much she needed to remember. Many stated that they always say the previous when reciting new ayahs.
Her teacher explained that “forgetting makes it part of worship because it is not about where you reach with your Hifz, but about how much you engage with the Qur’an.” Allah has designed it so that when you forget, you get more engaged and are rewarded for your efforts.
One of the lessons reiterated throughout the ‘Crowning Venture’ is that memorizing the Qur’an is a lifetime commitment that never ends. You memorize, comprehend the message, recite, review, and repeat. Do not be afraid of what others will say or think; simply start and keep going.
Our life circumstances can change, which may cause us to forget some Surahs. We have not stopped caring about our path with the Qur’an; Allah knows what is in everyone’s heart. However, we need to get back on track as soon as possible.
Prioritizing was a significant obstacle for Amina. She enjoyed being an active member of the Muslim community. While attending full-time classes, she began teaching the Qur’an and leading community projects.
Despite her commitments, her connection to the Qur’ān weakened. When she began prioritizing the Qur’an, a change occurred, and Allah allowed her to complete her memorization.”
